Lincoln, NE – This year, millions of Lutheran veterans will go unnoticed and unrecognized. They will receive no acknowledgement, no thanks, and no free dinner at Applebee’s.
Why? How have we failed our Lutheran veterans?
The truth is, most Lutheran veterans are so humble, modest, and self-effacing that no one even knows of their military service. They’d rather live out the Lutheran values of prudence and propriety than receive even the slightest recognition for their acts of service and bravery.
So this Veterans Day, seek out the Lutheran veterans among you. Take the time and effort to show your appreciation for them, since they will never ask for it themselves. And whatever you do, be sure to tell them that they can get a free lunch at the Texas Roadhouse or complimentary haircut at Great Clips. That may be the best way to say thank you of all!
